Some things are hard to build or fix at home. Maybe you do not have a workbench, a table saw or a soldering station, or your home is simply too cramped, too hectic or not the right place to concentrate. At The Owl’s Nest you can rent a workspace where you do have the space, calm and tools to work on your own project.
You can come to us for many different things: from repairing a wooden cabinet or a lamp to working on a hobby project, finishing a study assignment or quietly building a few prototypes. You work on your own idea, but not completely on your own: there is almost always someone nearby who can think along with you, offer a second pair of eyes or help you through a tricky step.
Renting a space is intended for people who:
If you are working on behalf of an organisation, institution or employer with a participant, student or client in our workshop, that usually does not fall under “renting a space” but under a trajectory or collaboration. In that case, please see For professionals or contact us to discuss the options.
The workshop contains a wide range of tools: hand tools, soldering stations, small power tools and various wood and metalworking machines. Some of these you can use yourself after an explanation. Heavier or higher-risk machines – such as the table saw, bandsaw, lathe or welding equipment – are only used together with us or under supervision. That way we keep things safe for everyone.
If you need something specific (for example 3D printers, the electronics lab or specialised equipment), please let us know in advance. Some of our equipment is located at other sites or in storage; if we need it for your project, we will look together at what can be arranged.
We try to set up the workshop so that people can work there in a calm, focused way. We mainly work by appointment and at times when our LED sign at the door says “Welcome, we’re open”. That way, there are not constantly people walking in and out while you are trying to concentrate.
We ask you to:
The workshop is on the ground floor. In the standard layout there is not enough space everywhere to turn safely with a wheelchair, but if you let us know in advance that you are coming with a wheelchair or rollator/walker, we can adapt the layout so you can reach your workspace properly.
Renting a space is in principle always by appointment. Together we schedule a half day (morning, afternoon or evening) and look at what your project needs: just a table and hand tools, or also machines and guidance. For some jobs we work alongside you for part of the time; for other projects you mainly work independently and we are available when you get stuck.
The workshop is not intended for large-scale production or noisy serial work. We focus on individual projects, small runs, repairs and hands-on experiments.
As a guideline, we charge € 30.00 per half-day session for renting workspace in the workshop. This includes:
Materials (wood, metals, components, consumables) are in principle at your own expense. If you would like to use workspace with us more often, or if your financial situation is limited, we will look together at an arrangement that fits. The main thing is that the rate makes sense for both you and the workshop.
Would you like to know whether your plan fits our workshop, or schedule a time straight away? Then get in touch via the Make an appointment page; we are happy to think along with you.
