Foundation

The Owl’s Nest does not stand on its own. The workshop is one of the projects of the IRADIS Foundation / ASK-Solutions, a Dutch foundation committed to technology, digital self-reliance and local community work. From the foundation we work on projects that help people regain control over their own tools, devices and surroundings: both literally (in a workshop) and in the digital world.

As a foundation we believe that knowledge, experience and technology should help people and their living environment move forward, not disappear behind closed doors. That is why we choose, as much as possible, open sharing of knowledge, practical explanations and projects that people can work with themselves. Whether it is a repair, a software project, a trajectory around work and health or a neighbourhood activity, we try to keep the threshold low and show people that they can do more than they think.

The Owl’s Nest within the foundation

The Owl’s Nest is the place where that work becomes very tangible. In the workshop, several strands of the foundation come together: technical research and development, reintegration and coaching, prevention and recovery, youth activities and local community work. You can see that in the mix of projects: from a renovation, project car and repairs of everyday devices to a coffee corner where people can catch their breath and have a conversation.

The workshop is one of the ways in which the foundation puts its objectives into practice. Other projects and activities take place partly online (such as software and documentation) or at other locations. Together they form one whole: a foundation that connects technology, open knowledge and care for people.
