The Owl’s Nest – Spaarndamseweg is housed in the last remaining building of the former Conradwerf. The building is largely hidden behind later development of the site and, through its age, shared use, and successive adaptations, has developed a distinctive lived-in atmosphere.
We work by appointment at this location. Visitors are welcomed and let in on arrival; the building’s entrance doors otherwise remain closed. This allows us to coordinate the available workspace, use by others, and anything needed for the planned work session in advance. Make an appointment to arrange a visit or work session. +31 23 369 0 269The Spaarndamseweg location is housed in the last remaining building of the former Conradwerf. The wider wharf site has disappeared and the area around the old building was developed later. As a result, it is now largely hidden, while something of the site’s industrial past remains recognisable in and around the building.
Its age and gradual adaptation give the building a layered, lived-in atmosphere. It is not a purpose-built course room, but a place that has accommodated different users and functions over time. The building is shared with small businesses, musicians, community initiatives, and other users, allowing technical, creative, social, and practical activities to exist alongside one another.
The future of this last surviving wharf building is uncertain. A local petition asks the Municipality of Haarlem and the owner to first investigate its heritage value, sustainability and possibilities for reuse before making an irreversible decision about preservation, integration or demolition. We work by appointment. The building’s entrance doors remain closed, and visitors are let in on arrival. We therefore agree in advance when you will come and which workspace or preparations are needed for your visit.
An appointment also makes it possible to prepare materials, equipment, or a temporary setup and to take account of other work in the building. A planned work session can therefore begin calmly without requiring the location to function as a permanently arranged space for one activity. Make an appointment.
There are workspaces for technical and practical work, including a 3D printer, soldering station, and a workstation for computer repairs. Other equipment, materials, and temporary setups are prepared when they are needed for a particular project or work session.
The building entrance is reached via an exterior staircase. From the central hall, a second staircase leads to our workspace.
