Workshop soldering
With soldering, you join metal parts using a heated soldering iron and solder. That can mean wires on a connection, parts on a circuit board, or replacing a loose or faulty component.
That is useful for electronics, small repairs and your own projects. Think of repairing a cable, fixing a connector, building a small circuit board or redoing a bad solder joint. In this workshop, the focus is on careful, safe work with small parts and simple circuits.
At Spaarndamseweg, soldering is offered as an introductory workshop of about four hours. You work at the fixed electronics workspace with a soldering station, small circuit boards, wire, connectors and small parts to practise on.
No previous soldering experience is required. We begin with the tools, safety and the question of what actually makes a good solder joint. After that, you practise with the iron, solder and simple connections, so you can feel how heat, contact and timing shape the result.
You learn, for example, how to tin a wire, solder a wire to a connection, place a simple part on a circuit board and judge whether a joint is neat and reliable. We also look at what can go wrong, such as too little heat, too much solder or a joint that seems attached but is not electrically sound.

If you want to go beyond a first introduction, or work on broader repair or electronics projects, the workshop form at The Owl’s Nest – Tugelastraat is the better fit.
At Tugelastraat, the soldering workshop is given at the electronics workspace. You work with a soldering station, soldering iron, solder, flux, circuit board, wire, small components and measuring tools.
You begin with the basics: working safely, using the iron properly, controlling the amount of solder, making a neat joint and recognising when a connection is good or poor.
If you want to continue afterwards, extra sessions can be arranged for more practice, desoldering, or working on your own small electronics or repair project.
This first workshop is for people who want to learn soldering without having to improvise on a real device straight away. You do not need experience. We start with simple exercises and small parts, so you first get a feel for heat, timing and the amount of solder.
If you want to continue after that first session, you can. That might mean practising on circuit boards, learning desoldering, repairing a bad joint or bringing in your own small project.
In the workshop, you learn how to hold the iron, how to heat a contact point, when to add solder and how to avoid a joint becoming dull, loose or too thick. You practise on simple examples and then look at what happens when a joint has had too little heat, too much solder or too little contact.
You might, for example, work with loose wires, connectors, simple through-hole parts on a circuit board or a small repair job. If you want to bring your own small circuit board, cable or part, that is often possible by arrangement.
You practise safe working, using the soldering iron, applying solder and flux, judging connections, correcting mistakes and, where needed, also desoldering.
The workshop is useful for electronics, small repairs, cable work and your own projects where parts need to be connected neatly and reliably.
