The Owl’s Nest is not tied to a single location. Each location is a fully recognised part and local expression of The Owl’s Nest, but no individual location defines or limits the wider concept.

Would you like to create a place where repair, making, practical technology, shared knowledge, learning and human-scale support come together? The Owl’s Nest can take shape within an existing workshop, school or community organisation, or begin as a new local initiative. Its precise facilities, activities and organisational form are adapted to the people, possibilities and needs around it.

A local identity within a shared model

A local implementation of The Owl’s Nest does not have to copy an existing location. It can have its own name extension, operator, legal structure, facilities and local character. What connects the locations are the shared principles, responsibilities and HPL framework.

A location can be operated by its own registered organisation. Where establishing an independent legal structure is not yet appropriate or practical, we can also explore whether the work can be developed under the organisational responsibility of ASK-Solutions. This includes looking at responsibility, insurance, finances, administration and practical operation.

More than using a name

The shared name makes clear what The Owl’s Nest stands for. Establishing a local implementation of The Owl’s Nest therefore involves more than using a name or logo. It also requires careful agreements about safety, knowledge, guidance, responsibility, local operation and sharing experiences back with the wider model.

You do not need to have a finished plan, building or collection of machines before getting in touch. The Owl’s Nest can begin locally on a modest scale and develop from the people, knowledge, space and resources already available.
