Automotive

Do you want to work on your car, run diagnostics, or handle a small repair that is hard to do at home? At The Owl’s Nest you can book an appointment for automotive work in a calm, practical setting. We keep it small-scale and safety-first: no production runs and no “quick in-and-out”, but taking the time to match the setup to your plan.

Automotive work is always by appointment and takes place at Paul Krugerstraat. This is also where our small lift and car-focused tools are available.

What is available?

For automotive jobs we have plenty of basic hand tools, plus a number of more specialised tools that make the work easier and cleaner:

  • Small lift

    We use a small mobile lift for vehicles up to 1600 kg. Because the drive-through height is 2 metres, taller vehicles are not always possible. If you are unsure whether your vehicle fits, let us know in advance (make/model and height is enough) and we will check with you.

  • Diagnostics equipment

    We have equipment to read fault codes, check the status of subsystems, and view live sensor values from the engine. We also have meters for measuring voltage, tools for testing and reconditioning batteries, and equipment for timing adjustment.

  • HVLP turbine spray system

    With a 3M PPS cup system for small paint jobs.

  • Welding equipment

    For fitting and fabrication work (see Welding).

  • Consumables

    We often have common consumables in stock, such as abrasives, filler, WD-40, brake cleaner, degreaser and primer.

We prefer not to promise that every specific product or tool is always ready. Availability depends on ongoing projects and staffing. If something is crucial to your plan, mention it in advance.

What do you bring yourself?

You usually bring your own parts and project-specific materials. We often have consumables such as abrasives, degreaser and primer, but if you need a specific brand, colour or type, it is best to bring it yourself.

Helpful to bring to your appointment:

  • the vehicle (or the part) you want to work on, plus any brand-specific keys/tools/accessories;
  • parts you have already bought or plan to use;
  • videos, fault codes, or short notes about the issue (when does it happen, what have you tried?).

Boundaries and safety

We focus on small-scale jobs, learning projects and careful repairs. The workshop is not meant for large-scale production, noisy repetitive work, or commercial throughput. If we are in doubt about safety or feasibility, we always choose the calm, safe option.

Want to check whether your plan fits, or book a moment right away? Make an appointment and we will align it together.

How does an appointment work?

For automotive work we briefly align in advance on what you want to do, how much time you expect to need, and whether extra guidance or preparation is required. For example:

Based on that, we plan one or more half-days and make sure the right space is available. Make an appointment and briefly describe what you want to do — we will think along.
