With glass art you can often get quite far at home. The Owl’s Nest is mainly for those moments when you would like just a bit more space, calm, or the use of tools you do not have yourself. But for many people the real difference is the social side: not working alone, but sitting around the table together, exchanging ideas, taking a quick look for each other, or helping with a tricky step. You work on your own project, with room to spar and share what you are making.
Please note: due to building works, the tools for working with glass are currently located at Spaarndamseweg. This location is always by appointment.
At the moment we can mainly support work that revolves around cutting, fitting, preparing and finishing. Think working out a design, cutting glass pieces, sizing parts accurately, and preparing panels or components.
We have a wide range of glass cutters (various models and types) and a Kristal glass grinding machine. There is also plenty of hand tools available, such as lead knives, glass hammers, grozing pliers, a badger-hair brush, brushes, sticks and scribes.
For leaded work we keep a small stock of lead came profiles. If you need a specific profile, size, or a larger quantity, it is best to bring it yourself or coordinate with us in advance.
Our Hoaf Speedburn 2 glass kiln is currently not set up. Because of that, the following techniques are temporarily not possible:
We also currently have no metal oxides and no glass frit in stock. If you want to work with these materials (once the kiln is back in use), bring them yourself or coordinate in advance what you need.
You usually bring your own glass and project-specific materials. We sometimes have small basic stock or leftovers, but do not assume your exact colour, texture or thickness will be available.
Coming in for a repair or an existing panel? If possible, bring:
Because the glass tools are at Spaarndamseweg and that location is always by appointment, we briefly align in advance on what you want to do and what you need. Make an appointment and describe your plan in one or two sentences — we will think along with you.

Not every location has the same tools ready. See where glass art takes place and what is possible there.
Glass work is often best by appointment: more calm, more space, and we can make sure the right tools are there.
